SSS-GSIS Pensyonado (SGP) Partylist assisted the Social Security System (SSS) as it conducted a successful membership registration drive in two barangays in the province of Tarlac.
SGP Partylist visited Barangays Villa Aglipay and Burgos in San Jose, Tarlac in support of the SSS e-Wheels Caravan, a mobile program that provides social security coverage by bringing relevant SSS services to remote areas.
The Partylist of SSS and GSIS pensioners also assisted in the medical missions conducted in the two barangays in coordination with the SSS Tarlac branch and provincial local government unit (LGU) officials led by San Jose Councilor Mico Yap Macasaet.
In Barangay Villa Aglipay and Barangay Burgos, SGP Partylist helped registered more than 200 new SSS members. To further encourage the new SSS members, their first month contribution was paid for by SGP Partylist.
In his message, Councilor Macasaet stressed the importance of SSS membership for both employed and the self-employed members.
The local official encouraged people who were still relatively young to start saving up for their retirement by making monthly contributions to their pension.
“Alam ko, marami dito mga kabataan pa. Iniisip na hindi pa gustong maghulog ng pera. Pero kapag panahon naman din, kapag senior na po kayo, may makukuha po kayo. (I know many people here are still young. You’re thinking that you don’t need to save money. But when the time comes, when you’re senior citizens, you will have a pension,)” Councilor Macasaet said.
Councilor Macasaet also introduced the SSS pension booster program that can enhance the benefits of pensioners beyond what the standard pension provides.
At the end, Councilor Macasaet expressed his appreciation to SGP Partylist for its efforts in helping the branch of SSS Tarlac and Tarlac LGU. He expressed his hopes that the partylist’s advocacies will benefit people like the residents of San Jose.
