The SSS-GSIS Pensyonado Partylist lauded the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) for making an emergency loan readily available for its members and pensioners in the National Capital Region (NCR), Batangas, and Rizal to help alleviate the effects of Typhoon Carina compounded by the Southwest Monsoon or ‘Habagat’.
“We support the GSIS for its humanitarian gesture of setting aside ₱18.5 billion in emergency loans to assist more than 800,000 government workers and their dependents affected by the effects of Typhoon Carina.” SSS-GSIS Pensyonado Partylist spokesperson Fercival Yutan said on Thursday (July 25).
The national government has designated the NCR, Batangas, and Rizal as calamity areas. Thus, GSIS members and pensioners who resident in these areas are eligible for the new emergency loan, which will be available from July 26 to October 28, 2024.
The GSIS Emergency Loan program provides immediate financial relief to members and pensioners in the calamity areas.
Beneficiaries who have active emergency loan balances may borrow up to ₱40,000, allowing them to clear earlier loans and get a net amount of up to ₱20,000.
If the beneficiary doesn’t have an existing balance, they can apply for a loan of up to ₱20,000. The emergency loan has a 6 percent interest rate per year and must be repaid over three years.
GSIS members can avail of the emergency loan if they meet the following conditions:
- Not on unpaid leave
- No pending administrative or legal cases
- Submitted at least six monthly premium contributions before loan application
- Net take-home pay of at least ₱5,000 as required by the General Appropriations Act.
Old-age and disability pensioners can qualify for the emergency loan if they have a net monthly pension that is at least 25 percent of their gross pension after deducting the loan’s amortization.
If the GSIS member meet the conditions, he/she may apply for the loan online through the GSIS Touch mobile app.
They can also at the nearest GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (GWAPS) kiosk. These kiosks are found in all GSIS branches, major government offices, local government unit (LGU) officers at the provincial, city, and municipal levels, and certain Robinson’s and SM shopping malls.
